LASIK
If you'd like greater independence from glasses or contacts, you could be a candidate for laser vision correction. The most commonly performed type of laser procedure is LASIK. It effectively treats nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism with only minor post-operative discomfort and a short recovery time.
In addition to traditional LASIK, we also offer CustomVue LASIK and Epi-LASIK/PRK procedures. CustomVue LASIK uses a wave front analyzer to measure the way light travels through your eye. The resulting map of your eye is then programmed into the laser, and the laser treats your eye based upon that personalized 3-D map. The purpose of CustomVue LASIK is to treat "higher order" abnormalities, which are tiny imperfections in the eye that can have a significant impact on your quality of vision. If you are not an ideal candidate for traditional LASIK because of thin corneas or dry eyes, then you may want to inquire about Epi-LASIK or PRK.

In an initial consultation, our board certified Ophthalmologist, Dr. Scott Petermman will evaluate your condition and recommend a personal treatment plan. All LASIK procedures as well as other laser surgeries and minor operative procedures are performed locally in our offices; other surgeries are performed at local hospitals. At The Eye Center, we make convenience a top priority. We are the only practice within one hundred miles of Valdosta that has a fixed, state-of-the art VISX S4IR laser for LASIK vision correction instead of a mobile unit. For our patients, this means we can perform procedures more frequently; therefore, allowing us to easily adapt appointments with the patient's schedule. We can also schedule your pre- and post-operative visits in Tifton or Valdosta.
