  • Dr. Peaslee Touches Lives in Georgia
  • October 29, 2009

The most touching moment of today came from one Georgian man in particular. This Gentleman came in complaining he could not see well. He had NEVER worn glasses! He held up spherical trial lenses, and the look on his face was a reminder of why we do this.  It was incredible!

But it gets even better. I told him that we would probably not have glasses strong enough for him but that Donna would likely have something that would at least help. As it turns out, she had nearly his exact Rx, to include a +2.25 add. He put them on and looked around the room and out the window in total amazement at the leaves on trees, texture on the walls, ect... The glasses did not fit well and were sliding down his nose, so Donna took them to be adjusted. When she turned around, he was trying to wipe away tears so she would not see him crying in joy. These people of this country are wonderful, and they are such a joy to work with.

  • Dr. Peaslee Visits the Country of Georgia
  • October 26, 2009

On October 26th, Dr. Alan Peaslee arrived at the Vaziani Training Area outside of Tblisi. For the next few weeks, he’ll be working with a Georgian optometrist to provide eye care to the people in the country of Georgia and its surrounding rural areas.

For the first three days, Peaslee and his team will travel into the rural Georgian village of Dmanisi to treat patients. From there, they will move on to the mountain valley villages. The final stop will be in Akhalsikhe.

While the team will not be performing LASIK or fitting contact lenses, they do have 1,000 pairs of adaptive eyewear on hand.

  • New TV Campaign is Launched
  • September 21, 2009

The Eye Center has launched a brand new TV campaign that will air on targeted cable networks in the Valdosta and Tifton markets. Included in the commercial are staff members, family members and patients. Our current campaign tag line is "See the Difference"; therefore, we went with a fun approach to letting people know about our LASIK, cataract and optical services.

The commercial will air until the first week of November. If you are in the Valdosta or Tifton area, keep an "eye" out for us on one of these cable networks: CNN, ESPN, FOX News, Lifetime, TBS, TNT, The Weather Channel, Food Network, USA, HGTV, TLC and Hallmark. • Returning to the ReSTOR Platform
  • September 21, 2009

Ophthalmologists are diagnosing and treating cataracts at an earlier stage and patients are living longer and expecting optimum visual performance. I started out as a comprehensive ophthalmologist 10 years ago, and then developed a referral network for cataract surgery. I currently do 20 to 30 cataract procedures a week between my three locations in South Georgia.

  • Full-time laser good news for South Georgians
  • May 7, 2009

As LASIK surgery becomes a more popular way for correcting vision, the demand for the service in South Georgia has increased. Dr. Scott Petermann is meeting that demand. Petermann, an ophthalmologist with the Affinity Health Group, added his own laser to his Valdosta office in February 2007. Now, patients can choose to have all of their pre-operation and post-operation visits in Tifton or Valdosta while having their actual surgery in Valdosta. Previously, the laser used in the procedure was not available on a full-time basis - leaving little flexibility in scheduling.
